Unfortunately, getting started is hard. Exercise programs may seem too time consuming. Gyms can be intimidating. Not to mention, if you're new to learning how to live a healthy lifestyle, you have a lot of old habits to break. Your fitness goals might seem completely out of reach. Then there are monetary concerns. Between gym memberships, running shoes, and yoga mats, the list of purchases you need to make seems to grow and grow.
Don't get overwhelmed. Take a deep breath, and start simple. Don't worry about how to be healthy or how you're going to get ripped and run a marathon yet. Set a fitness goal you're comfortable working like doing some light weightlifting exercises a few times a week or walking a mile after dinner. If these things feel like too little, you can always set the bar higher. Even if you can't feel yourself getting stronger immediately, you're setting patterns in your routine that will help you on your journey towards getting fit.
These routines and patterns are vital to learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. Fitness and nutrition are all about the averages of your daily inputs and outputs. Just like a single, high-calorie meal won't cause your weight to fluctuate, occasional workouts and irregular exercise won't do much to change your fitness level. This is why you need to work on making gradual lifestyle changes that you are comfortable with.
It's tempting to throw yourself headlong into getting fit, taking on a dozen new exercises and making radical diet changes all at once. This kind of radical approach may work for some, but most will wind up burned out and relapsing within a few weeks. Even if you make impressive strides in adopting a healthy lifestyle in that time, they don't help you in the long run if you're not consistent. The goal is to make lasting changes that will help you reach greater and greater fitness goals.
